MEXICO 04 July 2018 – Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Demetrio R. Tuason hosted a salo-salo for the Filipino Community in Mexico on 17 June 2018 at the Chancery, as part of the Embassy´s commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence.
The program for the celebration included a flag-raising ceremony, reading of the messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, a dance presentation by members of the Filipino Community, presentation of new Filipino arrivals in Mexico, and brief remarks by Ambassador Tuason.
Echoing Secretary Cayetano´s statement, Ambassador Tuason encouraged Filipinos in Mexico to actively contribute to nation-building efforts, including participation in the forthcoming senatorial elections in 2019. He also urged the Filipino community to be exemplary members of their adoptive communities in Mexico, as they represent the country as much as the Ambassador.
After the brief official program, the Filipino community in Mexico was treated to a buffet of Filipino comfort food prepared by the Embassy, which included lechon kawali, lumpiang gulay, chicken afritada, embutido, pansit, puto, turon, and melon juice. END
