NEW YORK 04 July 2018 – In co-celebration with Filipinos around the globe, the Philippine Consulate General in New York held a series of activities on 12 June 2018 to mark the anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence.
The Philippine Consulate General in New York began the commemoration of Independence Day with a flag-raising ceremony at the Philippine Center.
The flag-raising was attended by officers and staff of the Consulate General, the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Philippine Department of Tourism, Philippine Trade and Investment Center, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Philippine Center personnel. A hearty breakfast featuring traditional Filipino fare followed the ceremony.
In the evening, the Philippine Consulate General held its Independence Day reception at the Philippine Center’s Kalayaan Hall, attended by more than 130 Filipino Community leaders and friends of the Consulate.
Guests were entertained by songs performed by the Broadway Barkada, a group of Filipino artists and actors whose goal is to nurture and support Filipino talent.
The Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano were read by Deputy Consul General Kerwin Orville C. Tate and Consul Arman R. Talbo, respectively.
The guests were treated to a delicious dinner menu of Filipino food, prepared by notable New York-based Filipino restaurants and chefs. END
