PH Consulate General in Guam Hosts Independence Day Vin D’honneur

AGANA 05 July 2018 Philippine Consul General to Guam Marciano R. de Borja hosted the Vin d’Honneur reception in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence at the Chamorro Ballroom, Pacific Star Resort and Spa in Tumon on 12 June 2018. 

The program started with the singing of the Philippine and United States National Anthems and the Guam Hymn, led by the Consul General’s daughter Agatha de Borja.

It was followed by the reading of the Independence Day message of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte by Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy. The theme for this year’s celebration is, Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan” (“Independence 2018: Change We Fought For, An Offering To An Abundant Future”).

Consul General de Borja and Guam Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio led the ceremonial toast to celebrate the close friendship and strong ties between the Philippines, the United States, and the island of Guam.

After the ceremonial toasts, the guests were serenaded by renowned Filipino violinist John Lesaca, the Philippine Consulate General’s guest of honor, with his rendition of Filipino songs.

Close to 200 guests attended the Vin d’Honneur reception, which included dignitaries from the Guam government, 34th Guam Legislature led by Speaker Benjamin Cruz, judiciary led by Justice Robert Torres, the business sector, the Armed Forces of the Philippines led by Rear Admiral Samuel Felix, Guam armed services led by Major General Roderick Leon Guerrero, members of the academe, church leaders led by Archbishop of Agana Michael Byrnes, media partners, members of the Consular Corps, and officers and members of the various Filipino Community organizations led by Filipino Community of Guam president Norman Analista.
