As Semblance of Normalcy Returns in Syria, PH Embassy in Damascus Celebrates Kalayaan 2018

DAMASCUS 05 July 2018 — Under the leadership of Charge d’ Affaires, en pied and Consul General Alex V. Lamadrid, the Philippine Embassy in Damascus kicked-off the commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence with a flag-raising ceremony and thanksgiving mass at the Embassy chancery on 12 June 2018.
In attendance were Consul General, ad honorem Wassim Nanna of the Philippine Consulate General in Aleppo, officers and members of the Filipino Community in Syria (FCS), and wards of the Embassy’s Filipino Workers Resource Center.
After the flag-raising ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Lamadrid and Vice Consul Al-bari Macalawan read the Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano.
The Embassy awarded FCS with a plaque of appreciation for its unrelenting support to the Embassy in its mission of protecting the rights, and the promotion of the welfare and interests of overseas Filipinos in Syria.
A sumptuous traditional Filipino breakfast capped the 12 June Independence Day celebrations. END
