Filipino Community in Macau Celebrates Kalayaan 2018

MACAU SAR 12 July 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Macau SAR successfully hosted an event for the Filipino Community in celebration of Kalayaan 2018 with this year’s theme “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan,” at the Saint Joseph The Worker in Iao Hon District, Macau on 24 June 2018.
The celebration began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by Rommel De Castro, an Overseas Filipino Workers in Macau, and a doxology of giving praises through singing of “Ikaw Ang Bahala” sang by Ms. Grace Torrecampo.
Consul General Lilybeth R. Deapera welcomed the guests, and extended her appreciation to all who supported and graced the occasion.
Part of the program was the reading of Independence Day message for the Filipino Community of Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Labor Attaché Vivian F. Tornea read the message of Secretary of Labor Silvestre H. Bello III as well.
Selected members of the Filipino organizations helped the Consulate organize the event, in cooperation with the attached Philippine government agencies of the Consulate (Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Social Security System and Pag-IBIG Fund), Caritas Macau, BDO Remit, AirAsia, Cebu Pacific, Smartone, PLDT, Chinoy Express, and Giro’s Pizza.
Caritas Macau Secretary General Paul Chi Meng gave an inspirational message to the attendees.
Around 400 members of the Filipino Community participated the celebration. The program comprised various performances from different Filipino organizations, who volunteered to share their talents in showcasing the traditional folk dances and songs of the Philippines.
The much anticipated part of the program was the raffle draw of two roundtrip tickets to Manila courtesy of AirAsia and Cebu Pacific, ten grocery vouchers from Chinoy Express, SIM cards and mobile phone load from PLDT, two smartphones from Smartone, and small appliances from Caritas Macau. END
