SANTIAGO 15 June 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Chile celebrated the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence in a grand cultural showcase attended by more than 300 Filipinos at the Parroquia Italiana on 01 June 2019.
In her address to the community, Philippine Ambassador-designate to Chile Ma. Teresita C. Daza recalled the milestones and historic struggles the Philippines and the Filipino people had to endure in their journey toward nationhood and independence.
She called on Filipinos to look at the lessons of the past as a guide in facing the current challenges facing the Philippines and Filipinos today, such as poverty, inequality and other social issues.
The Embassy sponsored a Filipino cultural dance competition to celebrate the event. The cultural dance competition featured Filipino folk dances originating from various provinces in the Philippines and displaying the colorful clothes and character of each region.
The Jesus is Lord Dancers won the grand prize with their rendition of “Sayaw sa Bangko”, while the Twinklers performing “Binasuan” and G-flex Dancers with their “Modern Igorot Dance” won second and third places, respectively. END
