ROME 15 June 2019 - The Philippines was the country of focus at the International Cine Festival of the Association of Spouses and Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ACDMAE) held at Cinema Tiziano in Rome, Italy on 7 June 2019.
The Philippine Embassy in Rome and Sentro Rizal Rome Chapter, in collaboration with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), screened the movie “Ano ang Kulay ng mga Nakalimutang Pangarap?” through the FDCP’s Philippine Embassies Assistance Program (PEAP).
Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco thanked ACDMAE for the opportunity to participate in its International Cine Festival and to promote the Philippines and Philippine culture through cinema.
With over 160,000 Filipinos residing and working in Italy, the Ambassador underscored that the event was also an occasion to strengthen Philippine-Italian people-to-people ties.
“We hope that this film will let our Italian audience have a preview of the Filipino psyche and society in the context of familial relations, the consequences of migration, and the Philippines’ advancing economy,” Ambassador Nolasco said.
In her remarks, Mrs. Cecilia A. Nolasco, ACDMAE member and spouse of Ambassador Nolasco, shared that the film tackles the subjects of sacrifice, old age, and the consequences of migration. She said that the film was a good showcase of the various aspects of Philippine society and culture, including Filipino values such as selflessness and loyalty.
Following the film screening, the Embassy served pancit guisado, lumpiang prito, puto, kutsinta, and buko pandan gelatin to the guests to promote Philippine cuisine.
Established in 1978, the ACDMAE is a non-profit organization composed of spouses of current and retired employees of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The organization started its International Cine Festival in 2017 to promote cultural exchanges with countries that have diplomatic representations in Rome. Countries that have already been featured by ACDMAE, in collaboration with their respective embassies, include Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, South Korea, Dominican Republic, Finland, and Greece.
The participation in the International Cine Festival is one of the Embassy’s activities in celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and in commemoration of the 100 years of Philippine cinema. END
