PH Embassy Celebrates 121st PH Independence Day, 70th Anniversary of Philippines-Pakistan Diplomatic Relations

ISLAMABAD 18 June 2019 — In celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Philippines-Pakistan bilateral relations, the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad hosted a diplomatic reception at the Serena Hotel, Islamabad on 11 June 2019.

More than 200 guests representing officials from the host government, diplomatic corps, the business sector, the Honorary Consuls General from Karachi and Lahore, and the Filipino community attended the event.  The event was graced by the Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan as the Chief Guest.

In line with this year’s theme, “Kalayaan 2019, Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan,” Ambassador to Pakistan Daniel Ramos Espiritu emphasized the historical significance of the proclamation of the Philippine independence especially to the Filipino nation.

He likewise underscored the long history of cooperation between the Philippines and Pakistan particularly as demonstrated by the strong people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The formal program ended with the ceremonial cutting of the cake by the Chief Guest along with Ambassador Espiritu, witnessed by the Ambassadors of ASEAN missions in Pakistan, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The celebration also featured the cultural presentations in showcasing traditional Filipino folk dances namely, Tinikling, Paypay de Manila, and Paru-parong Bukid.  Food and refreshments featured famous Filipino dishes and beverage, as well as exhibits on Filipino handicrafts and products such as Del Monte and Mama Sita’s were also featured at the reception.
