DFA Consular Office in La Union Joins 121st PH Independence Day Celebration

LA UNION 18 June 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office (DFA CO) in La Union joined the San Fernando city and La Union provincial governments in the celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2019 in front of the San Fernando City Hall, which was attended by about 500 government officials and employees in La Union.

The program started with a community prayer led by Koro Azul in singing the “Our Father”, followed by the Dulaang Elyu’s re-enactment of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence Day.                                              

Wreath-Laying for the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, was led by the La Union and San Fernando city officials and members of the Free Accepted Mason of the Philippines. The regional government executives including DFA CO La Union’s Officer-In-Charge Estellita V. Casuga also offered wreath during the event.

A 21-gun salute from the La Union Police Provincial Office gives honor to the country’s national hero.

In the message of La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega, which was read by Provincial Board Member Reynaldo Mosuela, Governor Ortega said, “We have started our own revolution, our growth and development will be sustainable, with one vision with the City of San Fernando, no one will be left behind, no one. Today, as we look upon our 121st freedom day, let us join one another and together for our one beloved La Union and our country.”

San Fernando City Mayor Hermenegildo “Dong” Gualberto expressed in his message which was read by Acting Mayor Alfred Ortega, “Our freedom also depends on public servants on each and every one of us. We, who are willing to take the price for the Philippine independence. Our heroes fought for the dream that they could not have even defend.  We may not fight with blood but we have our principles.  Marami na tayong nagawa, marami pa tayong gagawin especially for the least, the last, and the lost.”

As the program ends, all participants raised their Philippine flags for the community singing of Pilipinas Kong Mahal led by the Koro Azul.

Earlier on 11 June 2019, CO La Union also celebrated Independence Day with the passport applicants at its Office at Manna Mall where the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr. was read by Officer-in-Charge Casuga after the singing of the Philippine national Anthem and ASEAN Hymn and recitation of the “Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas,” “Panalangin ng Kagawaran ng Ugnayang Panlabas,” “Ang Propesiyon ng Kagawaran ng Ugnayang Panlabas” at “Panumpa ng Kawani ng Gobyerno.” END
