SINGAPORE 20 June 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, headed by Ambassador Joseph Del Mar Yap together with Embassy officers and staff and its attached agencies, as well as Filipino community members in Singapore, held a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence on 12 June 2019 at the Chancery.

A Panagbenga or flower festival theme set the festive mood of the Independence Day celebration.

The Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III and Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana were read, respectively, by Consul General Adrian Bernie C. Candolada, Consul J. Anthony A. Reyes, Labor Attaché Saul T. de Vries and Defense Attaché Col. Virgilio F. Luna.

Ambassador Yap then delivered his Independence Day message to the Filipino community where he highlighted this year’s theme, “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan,” as capturing the very essence of how the country wants to achieve its strategic goals and objectives as a people.

“It indeed takes tapang or courage to address the challenges and face the uncertainties of the future. Our malasakit or compassion for our people should hold us together and strengthen our resolve to successfully overcome the challenges ahead,” Ambassador Yap said

A simple salu-salo of Filipino breakfast then capped the event for the guests of the celebration. END
