PH Embassy in Rome Commemorates PH Independence Day

ROME 22 June 2019 – In a series of activities, the Philippine Embassy in Rome celebrates the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the diplomatic corps and the Filipino community in Rome.
The Embassy and the Philippine Embassy in Vatican joined Filipino community members in a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony held at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal in Piazzale Manila in Rome on 02 June 2019. The ceremony was organized by the Philippine Independence Day Association.
The Embassy joined Filipino community organizations on 09 June 2019 at the Sala Olimpia of the Ergife Palace Hotel in Rome to commemorate Independence Day. The barrio fiesta-style event gave different Filipino communities from all over Italy the chance to exhibit Filipino culture, perform traditional dances and music, and serve Filipino food.
During the event, Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco conveyed that the current administration places value on courage and compassion, which can be seen in its policies in fighting corruption and illegal drugs. Ambassador Nolasco also encouraged the Filipino community in Italy to also continue demonstrating courage and compassion in their everyday lives.
On 12 June 2019, the Embassy hosted a lunch reception for Italian officials, the diplomatic corps in Rome, and members of the private sector. Italian Chamber of Deputies Member of Parliament Salvatore Deidda, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Undersecretary of State Manlio Di Stefano, and several ambassadors were among the high-level guests at the reception.
In his remarks at the diplomatic reception, Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the fast-growing Philippine economy and the strengthening of the bilateral partnership between the Philippines and Italy. The Ambassador thanked the Embassy’s partners for the support and cooperation they have extended to the Embassy in the past year.
Ambassador Nolasco also conveyed that the Philippines remains committed to be a responsible member of the international community.
Filipino and Italian food and sweets were served during the reception. To promote Philippine tourism during the event, snapshots and videos of pristine blue waters, white beaches and amazing sandbars of the Philippines adorned the venue. END
