PH Embassy in Mexico Commemorates 121st Anniversary of Proclamation of Philippine Independence

MEXICO 22 June 2019 - The Philippine Embassy in Mexico, led by Ambassador Demetrio R. Tuason celebrated the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence at the Marquis de la Reforma Hotel in Mexico City on 11 June 2019.

Over 200 guests from the diplomatic corps, Mexican private and public sector, academia and the Filipino community were in attendance.

In his speech, Ambassador Tuason mentioned the efforts of the Philippine government on building a safe, strong, and sustainable Philippines. He also paid tribute to past and modern-day Filipino heroes, and recognized their achievements and sacrifices toward the continued growth and prosperity of the Philippines.

Ambassador Tuason also honored the veterans and families of the Mexican Air Force Squadron 201, who contributed to the defense of the Philippines during the Second World War and further enhanced the strong bonds between Mexico and the Philippines.

The occasion celebrated Filipino food, art and culture, as guests were treated to song and dance performances by members of the Filipino community, and enjoyed Filipino delicacies such as lechon, lumpia, adobo, pansit, halo-halo and biko prepared by Filipino chef and painter Annabel Torres Blanco Reyna. Ms. Torres’ artworks were also put on display at the reception hall.  END
