PH Consul General Receives Los Angeles City Council Resolution Commemorating Philippine Independence

LOS ANGELES 26 June 2019 – Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz received the Los Angeles City Council Resolution commemorating the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence at the Los Angeles City Hall Forecourt on 07 June 2019.

The resolution was signed by Mayor Eric Garcetti and all 15 members of the L.A. City Council in recognition of the contributions of Filipino-American community in shaping Los Angeles’ socio-cultural fabric.

Newly appointed Filipino-American Commissioner for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Susana Reyes and Office of District 13 Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell representative David Giron presented the city resolution to Consul General Cruz. 

Consul General Cruz conveyed his sincere appreciation to the L.A. City Council in his remarks. He also lauded the Los Angeles Filipino Association of City Employees (LAFACE) for their patriotism and for consistently organizing the event, which gives occasion to honor the sacrifices of Filipino heroes who fought for our freedom.

The Consul General likewise highlighted this year’s Independence Celebration theme, that is, “Kalayaan 2019: Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan (Courage of the Nation: Compassion for the People).”

Guests were entertained by cultural presentations rendered by L.A. Doce Pares, a group in Los Angeles that teaches traditional Filipino martial arts using arnis, University of California Los Angeles Samahang Pilipino Dancers, a group of Filipino-American students that perform Philippine folk arts dances, and Agnes Santos, a Filipino-American known for her singing prowess.
