PH Embassy in Baghdad celebrates 121st Philippine Independence Day

BAGHDAD 28 June 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Baghdad celebrates the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan” in Baghdad and Erbil in the Kurdistan Region on 12 June 2019.
Embassy Charge d’Affaires (CDA) Julius D. Torres stressed the significance of the sacrifices of national heroes who stood up against the aggressors for the freedom of future generations. CDA Torres linked these sacrifices to the current events when the Philippine Government returned the tons of garbage shipped to the Philippines and the government’s programs to ensure the protection of the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
He also stressed that “individual bravery must also find its expression in collective courage to conquer the challenges the country faces and benefit the entire Filipino nation.” The celebration in Erbil featured breakfast for the Filipino community, an awarding ceremony for the winners of the volleyball and basketball tournament and the introduction of the Honorary Consul for the Kurdistand Region Falah Karur.
After the program, the Embassy conducted a consular outreach and attented to the problems of the runaways who are under the Embassy’s custody. CDA Torres also attended the inauguration of President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government. END
