OSLO 04 July 2019 – Rain or shine, the Filipino spirit cannot be dampened. Despite the pouring rain, the Filipinos in Norway enjoyed appetizing Filipino food, cultural performances, and the sense of community in celebrating Kalayaan 2019 in Stortorvet, Oslo on 08 June 2019.
The event was a project of the Filipino community in Norway, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Oslo.
Dubbed as Fiesta Filipino 2019, the celebration presented "SMAK AV FILIPPINENE", a festival of Filipino food offering delicacies ranging from lechon to barbeque, pancit to kakanin, and more.
Attendees were also entertained by Filipino talents who competed in the event’s singing contest entitled Awesome Pinoy! The occasion was one big family reunion with Filipinos bringing their friends and families, and other nationalities joining in the fun.
Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia delivered the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., which highlighted President Rodrigo Duterte’s emphasis on courage and compassion as “values that sustain the resolve of the Government to beat corruption, criminality, illegal drugs, and other social ills.”
The Ambassador also congratulated the Filipino community for organizing the Fiesta Filipino in a central part of Oslo and bringing together Filipinos, Norwegians, and other nationalities to celebrate Philippine Independence Day. END
