DAMASCUS 05 July 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Damascus culminated its commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a flag raising ceremony and Thanksgiving Mass at the Embassy chancery on 12 June 2019.
The activities were attended by Embassy personnel headed by Charge d’ Affaires (CDA) and Consul General Alex V. Lamadrid, and wards at the Filipino Worker’s Resource Center (FWRC).
The ceremony commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the recitation of the “Panunumpa sa Katapatan ng Watawat,” followed by the reading of the Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr.
In his remarks, CDA Lamadrid expounded on the importance of the occasion by remembering the sacrifices made by Philippine national heroes to attain independence from Spain. He also recalled the passage of Republic Act 8042, as amended by RA 10022 or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 which mandates the protection of rights of Filipino migrant workers.
St. Anthony of Padua Chruch parish priest Fr. Fahdi Azar celebrated a Thansgiving mass at the Embassy’ FWRC. Forty participants composed of Embassy officers and staff, and FWRC wards attended the celebrations. The twin activities were capped by a sumptuous traditional Filipino breakfast. END
