PH Embassy in Cairo Celebrates 121st PH Independence in Egypt, Ethiopia

CAIRO 08 July 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Cairo celebrates the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence in Egypt on 12 June 2019 at the Philippine Office Residence in Katameya Heights, New Cairo, and on 15 June 2019 in Ethiopia at the Sheger Royal Hotel in Addis Ababa.
In Cairo, Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado led the flag raising ceremony, which was followed by the pledge of allegiance to the Philippine flag. A thanksgiving mass, officiated by Monsignor Jan Thomas Limchua, a Cebuano priest and Second Secretary at the Apostolic Nunciature in Egypt, was offered in the spirit of the holiday.
The Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. were also read.
In Addis Ababa, the Filipino Community in Ethiopia (FCE) organized the Araw ng Kasarinlan celebration, with Ambassador Confiado as Guest Speaker. FCE members from different provinces of Ethiopia were invited.
On both occasions, the Ambassador remarks conveyed inspiring messages borrowed from the original text of the Philippine Declaration of Independence authored by Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista. The excerpts were read by Madame Priscila R. Confiado, including, “that Filipinos have the right to be free and independent” and “can live with honor and peace.”
History quiz games with the Filipino community members and Embassy staff were also conducted.
The 2019 Independence Day celebration was held under the theme of “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan” or Courage of the Nation, Compassion for the People. END
