LOS ANGELES 08 July 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, headed by Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, participated in a festival in celebration of the 121st  Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence at the Veterans Park in Carson City, California on 08 June 2019.

The celebration, which was organized by the Philippine Independence Day Foundation, Inc. (PIDF), in cooperation with the City of Carson, Carson Community Foundation, and ABS-CBN's The Filipino Channel (TFC) as media partner, commenced with a Community Mass officiated by Reverend Father Francis IIano.

The program kicked off with the singing of Philippine and United States national anthems, followed by the ceremonial parade, led by Carson City Mayor Albert Robles and Councilmember Jim Dear. Parade participants included the Consulate General’s delegation and several Filipino-American community and socio-civic organizations from all across Los Angeles County.

Consul General Cruz expressed his sincere appreciation to Carson City officials led by Mayor Robles, for their support to the Filipino community as well as their invaluable contributions to enhancing the relations between the Philippines and the U.S. He also thanked the Filipino-American community and its various organizations, especially the Philippine Independence Day Foundation, for organizing Independence Day activities in Carson City year after year.

He also took the opportunity to encourage the community to further display their patriotism by reacquiring Filipino citizenship and contributing to nation building through registering as an overseas voter and voting in the next elections.

The day-long celebration provided an opportunity for the community to come together and experience the diversity, richness and beauty of Filipino culture.

As in previous festivals, several booths were set up on the grounds of the Veterans Park that featured Filipino food, clothing, artwork, handicrafts, as well as a host of other Filipino-American products and businesses.

The event was made even more festive with the variety show, which included Filipino-American pop-dance singer Jocelyn Enriquez, Los Angeles-based Filipino-American acappella group  The Filharmonic and ABS-CBN singer and actor Iñigo Pascual.  END
