PH Consulate General in Manado Hosts Diplomatic Reception to Mark PH Independence

MANADO 12 July 2019 — Jubilant members of the Filipino community and Indonesian partners of the Philippine Consulate General in Manado gathered at Four Points by Sheraton Grand Ballroom on 16 June 2019 to celebrate the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

Consul General to Manado Oscar Orcine led the celebration that featured the theme “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan” (Courage of the Nation, Compassion for the People). In his keynote address, he paid tribute to the courage and compassion exemplified by the heroes of the Revolution who consecrated with their lives the freedom that generations of Filipinos enjoyed and continue to enjoy.

Consul General Orcine drew parallels between the heroes of the Revolution and the sacrifices of modern-day overseas Filipinos who continue to improve the wellbeing of their families and countrymen and chart a prosperous future for the country. He underscored the need for every Filipino to draw upon this tradition of courage and compassion to prevail over the challenges confronting the nation today.

The Consul General also acknowledged the gains made in fostering good relations between the Philippines and Indonesia that brought about close cooperation in addressing concerns over border security, immigration, and law enforcement.

Members of the Filipino community “Magilas” led a production number that showcased Filipino color, style, and dance. The group included students and teachers of the Manado Independent School. END
