HONG KONG 12 July 2019 — As part of this year’s Philippine Independence day festivities, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong organized two additional well-attended activities to celebrate the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence – the Kalayaan Festival at Chater Road in Central on 23 June 2019; and the Kalayaan Ball on 30 June 2019.
The Kalayaan Ball was a culminating event held primarily to express appreciation to those who supported, volunteered, and performed during the successful staging of the Kapangyawan Friendship Festival and Kalayaan Festival held on 9 June 2019 and 23 June 2019, respectively.
These events were made possible with the cooperation of Global Alliance, Philippine Association Hong Kong, Philippine Alliance, and Federation of Luzon Active Groups.
The Kalayaan Festival was highlighted by a parade participated in by various Filipino Community organizations, and an all-day program featuring cheerdance and modern dance competitions, Philippine festival street dancing, and live band performances by members of the Hong Kong Musicians Union.
The event commenced with a Zumba session and followed by an Amazing Race, where teams of five people race around Hong Kong in competition with other teams.
More than 400 members of the Filipino community in Hong Kong attended the 2019 Kalayaan Ball at The ONE Palace in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
In his opening remarks, Consul General to Hong Kong Antonio A. Morales thanked the members of the Filipino community for their hard work, dedication and unity. He also underscored their significant contribution in the recently concluded overseas voting that resulted in the successful holding of clean and honest elections in Hong Kong.
Consul General Morales handed over certificates of appreciation to individuals and organizations that contributed to the successful staging of the 2019 Kapangyawan Friendship Festival and Kalayaan Festival - a Consulate tradition being held annually right after the said festivities.
Guests were treated with sumptuous lunch while listening to karaoke performances by members of the Filipino community. END
