PH Consulate in Guangzhou hosted Diplomatic Reception to Commemorate PH Independence

GUANGZHOU 12 July 2019 — The Philippine Consulate in Guangzhou hosted a diplomatic reception to commemorate the 121st anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence at the LN Garden Hotel Guangzhou on 12 June 2019.
The event was attended by a total of 267 guests consisting of Chinese government officials, the Consular Corps in Guangzhou, the Filipino community in Guangzhou, members of the Chinese private sector, and local Chinese media.
Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress vice chairwoman Luo Juan was the guest of honor. Other VIPs included Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference- Guangzhou Municipal Committee vice chairwoman Zhang Yajie, Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong deputy director general Ouyang Jiangxuan, Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou deputy director general Ma Manhe, and other senior officials of the Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, and Hainan provinces.
Consul General to Guangzhou Marshall Louis M. Alferez emphasized the massive opportunities that continue to emerge from the productive relations of Philippines and China, especially Guangdong Province, and looked forward to broader and deeper collaboration in commerce, education, innovation, science and technology, law enforcement, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and people-to-people exchanges.
In response, Madame Luo spoke about how “development is highly complementary” between the Philippines and China. She expressed the hope that the two countries will collaborate to seize the opportunities such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area, and in areas like cultural exchanges.
The Consulate General showcased Filipino culture through the display of various barong tagalog and baro’t saya designs and photos of tourist attractions, the serving of several Filipino culinary delights, and the performance of original Filipino pop music by the Guangzhou-based band Amplified.
Several Filipino companies generously provided their products for distribution, specifically San Miguel Beer Guanzhou, Oishi Shanghai, and URC Hong Kong. There was also a raffle of four plane tickets Guangzhou-Manila-Guangzhou by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. END
