BUCHAREST 30 June 2019 – Ambassador to Romania Maria Fe T. Pangilinan led the celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence at the courtyard of Biserica Sf. Anton de Padova-Colentina on 16 June 2019.
Despite the sweltering 35°C temperature, around 250 Filipinos, including their families gathered for the celebration organized by The Filipino Community in Romania (TFCR). The event showcased Filipino talents in song and dance performances, while serving of Filipino dishes and desserts.
In the program, a plaque of appreciation to TFCR President Rouen Reyes was afforded by Ambassador Pangilinan.
Prior to the celebration, the Embassy hosted a lecture on human rights, migration and human trafficking as part of the Embassy’s Assistance to Nationals projects. Romanian-American University School of Law lecturer Atty. Silvia Maria Tabusca, PhD, was invited to deliver the lecture which was attended mostly by female workers.
In her address to the community, Ambassador Pangilinan focused on the theme of the year’s celebration, “Courage and Compassion,” which should inspire Filipinos abroad to be heroes not just for their families, but for others.
She also reminded the Filipinos to be more aware and conscious of their rights as foreign or migrant workers in Romania. END
