03 January 2018 ANKARA — The Philippine Embassy in Ankara Organized a Program in the Embassy Premises to Commemorate the 121st Death Anniversary of Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal on 29 December 2017. The Program Started with a flag hoisting ceremony, singing of the Philippine national anthem and oath to the Philippine flag followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal at the embassy's garden. Embassy personnel and members of their household sang “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” during the ceremony and held a moment of silence for the national hero.

The group also visited the Embassy's Sentro Rizal to mark the event and read the last poem written by Dr. Jose Rizal "Mi Ultimo Adios" as translated by Gat Andres Bonifacio in the Filipino language. During the program, the embassy emphasized the need to constantly remember not only Dr. Rizal's two great novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, but the way he lived and influenced the lives of his countrymen and other countries and cultures in Asia and in Europe, earning him the accolade as The Great Malayan. The event was capped with a Filipino breakfast serving traditional dishes such as tapa, eggs, fried rice, tomatoes and fried fish. END
