PHL Embassy in Wellington Commemorates the 121st Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

25 January 2018 WELLINGTON — Philippine Ambassador Jesus S. Domingo led the officers, staff and families of the Embassy of the Philippines in Wellington, New Zealand in commemorating the 121st Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal at the Embassy Chancery on 30 December 2017.
Held at the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy, the occasion began with the singing of the national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang,” by all Embassy personnel and their families.
Ambassador Domingo gave his welcome remarks and discussed the important role of Dr. Rizal in shaping the Filipino nation, underscoring his achievements and the ideals that he stood for as the Philippines' foremost nationalist, patriot and advocate for reforms through peaceful means during the Spanish colonial period.
As the event’s primary audience were the youth, Ambassador Domingo invited the children of the officers and staff of the Embassy as well as the Embassy’s visitors and applicants to attentively watch the films José Rizal, a biographical movie directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya and starring Cesar Montano as José Rizal, and Pluma: Si Rizal, Ang Dakilnag Manunulat, a GMA News TV Docudrama.
