PHL Consulate General in Agana Celebrates Women’s Day

13 March 2018 AGANA – The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, in partnership with the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GWCC), celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) and Philippine National Women’s Month (NWM), with its fourth breakfast forum on March 08 at The Gallery, Hilton Guam Resort and Spa.

Ms. Ma. Alegria “Bing” S. Limjoco, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), was the event’s guest-of-honor and keynote speaker. Ms. Limjoco was joined by a delegation from the Philippine Franchise Association led by Ms. Elizabeth Pardo-Orbeta, Chair of the Council of Past Presidents and Director for the Committees on Education and Advocacy and External Relations, Philippine Franchise Association (PFA); and Chairman, Wenphil Corporation (master franchisee of Wendy's Hamburger) with Ms. Rebecca Bucad, CEO of K2 Pharmacy, Ms. Sherill Quintana, President and Founder of ORYSPA, and Ms. Chit Estrada, PFA Executive Director; and Ms. Grace Morella, PCCI Project Development & Regional Affairs Manager.

With the themes “WE Make Change Work for Women” and #PressforProgress of NWM and IWD, respectively, the forum featured a panel of five career women in diverse sectors invited by the GWCC to share their stories of survival and success. The panel was composed of  34th Guam Legislature Senator Régine Biscoe Lee; Rindraty Celes Limtiaco, President, Pacific Daily News; Ina Carillo, Owner, Budget Bridal Boutique and BLUSH; Darlene Garcia, Certified Grief Recovery Specialist; and Dr. Corazon Alegria-Webb, owner of Harmon Loop Dental Clinic. The panel discussions were moderated by Ms. Denise Mendiola of GWCC. 

Ms. Limjoco spoke before an audience of notable women from government, business and the community including Consul General of Japan Izumi Seki; 34th Guam Legislature Vice Speaker Therese Terlaje; Former US Attorney for Guam Alicia Limtiaco; Bank of Guam President Lou Leon Guerrero, Madam Jennifer Aguon spouse of Senator Frank B. Aguon, Jr.; members of GWCC, other officials from the Government of Guam, leaders of different women associations on Guam, academe; and media.

Ms. Limjoco presented developments in the Philippine economy and the country’s growing franchise industry of global brands.

The forum also witnessed the signing of the PCCI-GWCC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on strengthening economic and trade ties between the Philippines and Guam. 

Part of the delegation’s program was a meeting with GWCC officials on March 08 at the Philippine Consulate and a call on Senator Biscoe Lee, Chair of the Committee on Innovation and Economic, Workforce, and Youth Development, on March 09 at the Guam Congress Building. END
