3 July 2013 – Philippine Ambassador to Austria Lourdes O. Yparraguirre met with Dr. Ingeborg Hochmair, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of MED-EL on June 18. She was joined by Philippine Honorary Consul in Innsbruck Dr. Christian Traweger and First Secretary and Consul Pete Raymond V. Delfin.
MED-EL is the world leader in the manufacture of innovative medical devices for the treatment of various types of hearing loss.
MED-EL’s unique portfolio of hearing implants is available in more than 90 countries worldwide. The company has more than 25 international offices and maintains one in the Philippines located at the Madrigal Business Park in Muntinlupa City.
Dr. Ingeborg Hochmair and her husband, Prof. Dr. Erwin Hochmair, developed the world’s first micro-electronic and multichannel cochlear implants in Vienna in 1977.
They founded MED- EL in 1990, and under their leadership the company introduced several pioneering products to address hearing loss.
Dr. Hochmair informed Ambassador Yparraguirre that they are satisfied with their operations in the Philippines and praised the work of MED-EL’s employees in the country. She also discussed some important matters which could possibly impact on the company’s future operations in the Philippines.
In addition, MED-EL executives provided a tour of AUDIOVERSUM, a museum with an interactive exhibition on the world of sounds and the importance of hearing. All exhibits have been developed by MED-EL and its project partner, Ars Electronica, a leading future and technology company. END
