BERLIN 28 October 2020 – A multi-Embassy Webinar on livelihood prospects in the Agri-Business sector was held for overseas Filipinos based in Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands on 24 October 2020.
Dubbed “May Kita sa Agrikultura”, the virtual session was spearheaded by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Berlin (POLO-Berlin) and the Department of Agriculture Office in Brussels with the support of the Philippine Embassies in Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands.
The session was envisioned to provide overseas Filipinos and their families in the Philippines with an overview of Agri-business livelihood opportunities, a primer on financial management and investment planning, government livelihood support programs, and testimonial from an OFW turned agri-entrepreneur.
The resource persons included Philippine Consul General in Geneva Arnel Talisayon, Agricultural Attaché Jerome Bunyi, OWWA Director Roel Martin of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs, and a former OFW and Chef turned agricultural entrepreneur Jojo Joaquin. The speakers were introduced by OWWA Welfare Officer Sylvia Gabriel while Labor Attaché Delmer Cruz served as the moderator for the program.
Philippine Ambassador to Belgium Eduardo Jose de Vega, Philippine Ambassador to Germany Theresa Dizon-de Vega, and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. in The Netherlands Lolita Capco were on hand to deliver inspirational messages to the participants.
The webinar, as part of government efforts to provide useful online seminars and other learning sessions to overseas Filipino communities and in support of OFW return and reintegration programs, has attracted several thousand viewers during its livestream presentation via the Philippine Embassy in Germany Facebook page and has generated active participation and discussion on agricultural sector opportunities in areas such as livestock management, cacao growing, market access, and urban farming, among others.
