PH Consulate General Joins Filipino Community in Honoring L.A. County Reserve Deputy Sheriff

LOS ANGELES 30 October 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles joined the L.A. County Sheriff Community Advisory Council and Filipino-American community in Southern California in honoring Filipino-American Charles Ongsingco, Reserve Deputy Sheriff of L.A. County. The conferment of awards was held on 26 October 2020 at the Sheriff Headquarters (Hall of Justice) in Los Angeles, California.
Reserve Deputy Sheriff Ongsico was recognized for his voluntary, selfless and dedicated service in enforcing community peace and order as a member of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department – Reserve Forces Detail, especially at the height of the protests in L.A. County.
During the ceremony, five Filipino community organizations presented the Reserve Deputy Sheriff with their respective plaques of appreciation namely, National Federation of Filipino American Association, Filipino American Community of Los Angeles, Long Beach Bacolod Association, Filipino-American Law Enforcement Officers Association, and Philippine Women’s Club.
Also present commending his exemplary service were no less than L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, and the City of Carson Mayor Pro Tem Jim Dear who also presented Reserve Deputy Sheriff Ongsico with a plaque of appreciation from the City of Carson. The Consulate General’s representatives, Political Officer Consul Rea G. Oreta and Information Officer Mary Grace “Joss” Leaño were also present during the ceremony.
Reserve Deputy Sheriff Ongsico is currently assigned at the Altadena Sheriff's Station serving the areas of Altadena, Angeles National Forest Mount Wilson Area (Eaton Canyon), Chaney Trail, Kinneola Mesa, La Vina, Northeast Pasadena, Pasadena Glen. He is also part of the Reserve Forces Civil Unrest Team and the COVID-19 Crisis Patrol Team.
The awarding ceremony was held in time with the celebration of the Filipino-American history month, which commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in continental United States and acknowledges the valuable contribution of the Filipino-Americans in shaping American history. END
