PH Thanks UAE for USD 9.5m Humanitarian Assistance for Typhoon Rolly

ABU DHABI 11 November 2020 — On 06 November 2020, the Philippine Government expressed gratitude for the USD9.5M (AED 35M) humanitarian assistance from the United Arab Emirates Government for those affected by Typhoon Rolly (known internationally as “Goni”).

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces made the announcement of support on 03 November 2020, just two days after the landfall of the supertyphoon in the Philippines, a Category 5 typhoon dubbed as the strongest storm this year.

In an official statement issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs, it said:

“The Philippines conveys its sincerest thanks to the Government of the UAE for the kind and rapid humanitarian assistance coursed through the Philippine Red Cross to support Filipinos affected by the devastation wrought by Typhoon Rolly. This kind gesture will be remembered as a gesture from the heart of a caring nation that is the UAE, a true and reliable friend of the Philippines.”

Four representatives from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) are expected to arrive in the Philippines shortly to closely coordinate with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) with regard to the humanitarian aid.

The Al Ittihad, UAE’s national newspaper, earlier quoted Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn M. Quintana when she expressed her thanks to the UAE leadership for “their generosity and solidarity with the Filipino people in the wake of the typhoon Goni.” She also praised UAE for its consistent commitment to help the Filipino people in times of calamities and cited the UAE as a great humanitarian and friendly country that the Filipinos can rely on.
