PH Consulate General in Los Angeles, California Local Elected Officials Join Fil-Ams in Paying Tribute to Labor Rights Leader Larry Itliong

LOS ANGELES 10 November 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, led by Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, joined the Filipino-American community in Los Angeles for the Pilipino Workers Center’s (PCW) Day 2 of the Larry Itliong Festival 2020, which was held virtually via Zoom on 07 November 2020, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
In his remarks, Consul General Cruz commended PWC, led by its Executive Director, Aquilina Verzosa, for the organization’s commitment to promoting the life and legacy of Filipino farmworker and labor rights leader, Larry Itliong, despite the global health emergency. He encouraged the Filipino-American community to share with their children the noble principles of equality and social justice taught by Larry Itliong, and continue to answer the call to community-building and civic-mindedness.
The event, which was streamed live via several platforms, including Facebook and Kumu App, was organized by the PCW and the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with The Filipino Channel (TFC) and Myx Global, as well as other community partners including: the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, Larry Itliong Day Committee, Filipino Farmers Cooperative, Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), and Island Pacific Supermarket.
Larry Itliong’s daughters, Ms. Maria Avalos, and Ms. Patty Itliong-Serda and her daughter, Hailey also joined the community in the celebrations.
PWC commenced its Larry Itliong Festival celebration on 25 October 2020 with a Farmers Market (curbside pick-up only), selling fruits and vegetables grown and harvested by Filipino farmers from California’s Central Valley. END
