PH Embassy in Beijing participates in Economic, Trade and Cultural exchange activity in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province

BEIJING 28 December 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana led a delegation from the Philippine Embassy in Beijing that co-organized the “Silk Road friendship and Future Cooperation: China-Philippines International Economy, Trade and Culture Exchange Forum” held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province on 10 December 2020.
The Philippine Embassy in Beijing, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), and the municipal and provincial governments of Xi’an and Shaanxi, respectively, jointly organized the event. While in the historic Chinese city, the Philippine delegation visited institutions and enterprises in the area engaged in education, railway operation, trade, and tourism.
During his opening remarks at the forum, Ambassador Sta. Romana highlighted the efforts of the Philippines and China to enhance ties in various fields of their bilateral relations. Coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year, the Ambassador added that the trade and investments promotions event is part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts “…to lay the foundation for revitalized engagement post COVID-19 pandemic”.
Later in the program, the trade, agricultural, and tourism officials joining the Philippine delegation made their respective presentations on the prevailing business landscape, highlighting the new opportunities in the country for business and investments in the trade, agriculture, and tourism sectors. Moreover, representatives of Filipino-owned companies Liwayway Group and SM, which have operations in China, joined Baigongfang Handcrafts Museum, Beijing Arhieason Co. Ltd., New Hope Liuhe Co. Ltd., Global Good Goods, and GuizhouFantian Fungus Industry in sharing their rich experience operating their respective enterprises in the Philippines and China.
On 11 December 2020, the Philippine Delegation visited the campuses of the Xi’an International University (XAIU) and Xi’an Railroad Vocational and Technical Institute, as well as a production plant of e-vehicles manufacturer BYD, and the office of the Batangas International Trade Center. The visits were an opportunity to exchange views on avenues for collaboration between the Philippines and said institutions. END
