Filipina Nurse Featured Prominently At UAE’s 49th National Day Event

Filipina nurse Ms. Iris Ena Diel during the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) 49th National Day presentation “Seeds of the Union”.

ABU DHABI 03 December 2020 – Filipina nurse Ms. Iris Ena Diel, a COVID-19 frontliner, was featured prominently at the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) 49th National Day presentation “Seeds of the Union” on 02 December 2020. Witnessed by UAE’s rulers led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the 40-minute event was shown on UAE TV. 

Ms. Diel appeared in the first 15 minutes of the presentation, saying, “I am a nurse from the Philippines and I was taking care of COVID-19 patients from different nationalities that I felt my work was vital for the well-being of humanity.” The stories depicted at the event highlighted the message that adversity could be overcome through ambition and resolve, symbolized by the mangrove tree, and that current and future challenges can be overcome together by the leaders and the people of the UAE, including the Filipinos who rank third among the expatriate population in the UAE. 

Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Hjayceelyn M. Quintana expressed gladness and pride that Filipino medical frontline workers were recognized by the UAE government in this momentous event.
