PH, Turkmenistan Convene First Consultations Since Establishment of Diplomatic Relations

PASAY CITY 19 March 2021 — The Philippines and Turkmenistan, represented by Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for Middle East and African Affairs Leslie J. Baja and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director of the Asia-Pacific Department Bayram Klychmammedov, convened online consultations on 17 March 2021, first in the almost 24 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries established on 23 July 1997.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to work on the establishment of a formal mechanism for regular consultations between the Philippines and Turkmenistan on bilateral matters; reviewed the status of ongoing cooperation on trade and economy, finance, consular, and multilateral matters; and committed to explore potential cooperation on air services, investment, energy, tourism, culture, and sports, among other areas.
