Halal Filipino Cuisine Takes Center Stage at Local Tourism Event in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 5 April 2021 – Filipino Dishes such as Rellenong Manok, Longganisa, Daing na Bangus and Laing were featured during the first culinary tour package event dubbed “Bringing the Philippines to Your Table,” organized, with the support from the Philippine Embassy, by Darussalam Travel and Tours on 28 March 2021 at the Kampung Bolkiah Community Center of Kampong Ayer. Filipinos and local Bruneian participants expressed delight at the communal atmosphere of the event and the all-Filipino menu which was selected and prepared in accordance with halal standards by Arquilato Kusina, a home-based kitchen owned and managed by Filipino-Bruneian siblings, Ms. Nurhaziqah Omar and Mr. Afiq Omar.
The event also afforded an opportunity for the Embassy to promote Fiesta Filipinas. In his remarks at the event, Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero underscored the shared commonalities of the Philippines and Brunei, not only due to proximity and close historical connection but also a similar environment that influenced the culinary tradition of both countries.
