Philippines, Egypt Celebration of 75 Years of Deepening Friendship, Captivates Audience in Cairo

CAIRO 30 March 2021 — The Philippine Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, and the Cairo Opera House celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the Arab Republic of Egypt, through “Awit at Sayaw: An Evening of Music and Dance” at the El-Gomhoureya in Downtown Cairo on 26 March 2021.
Ambassador Sulpicio M. Confiado welcomed the visitors with a core message of “Deepening Friendship” as the two countries explore opportunities to further cooperation in various fields. Representing the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is Ambassador Hazem El-Tahry, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for ASEAN, South and East Asian Affairs, who conveyed his congratulatory remarks to the Philippine government.
“Awit at Sayaw: An Evening of Music and Dance” mostly featured the talents of volunteers from the Filipino community in Egypt such as the Philippine Chorale Group which sang “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit’ and “Light of a Million Mornings” and mix of Filipino and Egyptian dances such as the Banga, Kapa Malong-Malong, Bulaklakan, Pakiring, La Jota Cavitena, Nubian dance, Tahteeb, Yashmak & Tarabeesh and Iskanderany. The finale included a special song rendition of Jose Mari Chan’s “A Love to Last a Lifetime” by Ambassador and Madam Confiado and the Philippine Chorale Group, and a joint dance number by selected Filipino and Egyptian dancers.
