Team Philippines in Turkey Meets with Turkish Airlines CEO

ISTANBUL 17 August 2021 —  Team Philippines in Turkey, led by Philippine Ambassador-designate to Turkey Maria Elena P. Algabre, met with Mr. Bilal Eksi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Turkish Airlines (THY), to discuss expanding people-to-people relations between the Philippines and Turkey at the THY headquarters in Istanbul on 16 August 2021. 

The two exchanged views on the possibility of increased flights between the Philippines and Turkey and how these would bolster trade and tourism linkages. The Ambassador-designate thanked CEO Eksi for THY’s assistance for the recent repatriation of over 300 Filipinos from Ethiopia with the help of a Turkish company employing the Filipino nationals.   

Ambassador-designate Algabre was joined by Consul General Arvin R. de Leon of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Marc Theodore P. Benigno of the Philippine Embassy in Ankara. 

Turkish Airlines currently provides the only non-stop commercial flights, apart from Philippines Airlines, between the Philippines and Europe. END
