9 July 2013 -- The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that seven Filipino artists participated in the Philippines-Malaysia July Exhibition, which opened on July 7 at the Galeri Seni Mutiara in Penang.
The group is composed of artists Dennis Gonzalez, Leonardo Aguinaldo, Noel Pana, Norman Dreo, Roen Capule, Salvador Ching and Salvador Convocar.
Consul General Medardo G. Macaraig and the Embassy’s Cultural Attaché Helen Grace Cuisia joined art enthusiasts during the opening ceremonies, which also featured Malaysian artists and their creations.
The Philippines-Malaysia July Exhibition was held as a platform for cultural exchange between artists from the two countries.
During his remarks, Consul General Macaraig said that “art is the expression of our souls”, adding that Filipinos are a highly-artistic people whose talent should be showcased around the world.
“It is high time for Filipinos to showcase the very best of our country’s arts and culture, especially to our neighbors. I am truly grateful for these artists for doing their part in spreading the richness of Filipino art and culture” he said.
These words were exemplified by the artists themselves as shown in their paintings. Artist Noel Pama, one of the participating Filipino artists, expressed his love and devotion to his wife as illustrated on his paintings currently displayed at the exhibit.
The exhibit is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will run until July 28. END
