Santiago

1 August 2013 - Philippine Ambassador to Chile Maria Consuelo Puyat-Reyes visited the first Filipino restaurant in Santiago.  She recently led the Embassy officers and staff in sampling the sumptuous traditional Filipino dishes offered by Delicias de Filipinas which opened last March 11.

Santiago 2The restaurant is owned by Emma Mendez, a Filipina married to a Chilean who has been living in Santiago for eight years.  Among Emma’s regular offerings are tinolang manok, kalderetang baka, sinigang, lumpiang shanghai, adobo, dinuguan, embutido and menudo.

The restaurant’s interior is adorned with posters of Philippine sceneries and tourist attractions, giving patrons a virtual experience of the country.  In addition, two Filipina waitresses graciously attend to the guests in a display of traditional Filipino warmth and hospitality.

Emma proudly told Ambassador Puyat-Reyes that the number of local residents regularly patronizing the establishment has been growing and she hopes to build on this momentum. END
