20 August 2013 - Philippine Consul General Maria Hellen Barber De La Vega attended recently the commemoration of the end of World War II on August 10 at Battleship USS Iowa in San Pedro, California.

In her address, the Philippine Consul General reiterated the Philippines’ support to the United States as a treaty ally and partner committed to enduring peace in Asia and the rest of the world.

The Consul General attended the event with the officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles.

The 10 August event also celebrated the Spirit of 45, America’s Greatest Generation, led by WW II veterans of the attack on Pearl Harbor and Bataan Death March Survivors, among others.   For the first time, the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society in the Southern California area, led by its President, Mr. Gil Mislang, participated in the milestone event, together with Philippine Expressions Bookshop owner Linda Nietes, who showcased books about the Philippines during WW II.  END
