SF Buwan ng Wika

22 August 2013 - Filipino games became the order of the day as the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco celebrated the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa during the Happy Kids Day Festival held on  August 17, at the Cupertino Memorial Park in Cupertino, California.

The Happy Kids Day is an international festival participated in by various foreign missions and local community and business organizations.

Recognizing the child’s ability to easily learn a foreign language, the festival became a very useful occasion to teach the Filipino language to children of Filipino descent, and even to those of other nationalities.

Posters showing the Filipino alphabet, national symbols, and common Filipino phrases with their English translations were on display at the Consulate General’s booth.

Filipino games were also used as another medium to teach simple Filipino words. Words such taya, bato, papel gunting, pabitin and tinik were used in explaining the mechanics of the games to children and their parents.

A poster depicting some popular Filipino games were also displayed. As expected, the Luksong Tinik, Jackstone, Sungka and Patintero easily became the favorites of the Festival guests who visited the PCG booth. END
