During the outreach activity, the consular team took the opportunity to inform our kababayans in American Samoa about Consulate’s consular services, updates on their previous requests for assistance relative to their working conditions, issuance of the necessary permits and tax exemptions. The Consul General assured them that the Consulate will be ready to help them address their concerns and will convey the same to the appropriate concerned agencies.
While on the island, the Consul General also met with Governor Lolo Moliga and the new Catholic Bishop of American Samoa, Rev. Peter Brown.
Among the issues discussed with them are the status of Filipino workers; possibility of appointing an Honorary Consul General for American Samoa; and Philippine-American Samoa relations, focusing on economics and tourism.
The Filipinos in American Samoa repeatedly expressed their sincerest appreciation to the consular team and conveyed hope that Post could consider more consular outreach programs on the island in the future.
The last consular program on the island was held in September 2012. END
