09 September 2013 - The Philippines’ most talented young ballet dancers conquered the Hong Kong ballet scene with their outstanding performances during the Asian Grand Prix (AGP) International Ballet Competition held from August 13 to 18 at the Y-Theatre, Youth Square.
Philippine Consul General in Hong Kong Noel Servigon attended the event’s gala performances on August 18.
Filipino ballet dancers dominated the Pas de Deux Division, with Jasmine Pia Dames and Rudolf Capongcol winning the gold medal while dance pairs of Dawna Reign Mangahas and Elpidio Magat, Jr., and Joan Emery Sia and Alfren Salgado tied for the silver medal.
The other winners are Rissa May Camaclang (silver medal, Junior B Division), Rudolf Capongcol (silver Medal, senior Division), Rissa May Camaclang (silver medal, Junior B Division), Dawna Reign Mangahas (bronze medal, Senior Division), Lormaigne Hannelore Bockmuhl (bronze medal, Junior A Division), Pia Angela Custodio (5th place, Junior C Division), Jessa Balote (5th place, Junior B Division), Julio Laforteza (5th place, Junior C Division), Jasmine Pia Dames (5th place, Senior Division), Raye Vince Pelegrin (6th place, Junior A Division), Jessica Pearl Dames (6th place, Senior Division), Elpidio Magat Jr. (7th place, Senior Division), and Arnulfo Andrade, Jr. (8th place).
Raye Vince Pelegrin also won the Summer Intensive Program 2013 Scholarship for the Junior A Division, while Lormaigne Hannelore Bockmuhl won the So Dance Prize for the Junior Division, and Jasmine Pia Dames and Rudolf Capongcol won the Sansha Excellency Award.
The AGP was established in 2011 and is open to all young ballet dancers from all over the world. The competition is organized by former principal dancers of the Hong Kong Ballet, one of whom is Mr. Carlo Pacis who also a former member of Ballet Philippines. For 2013, AGP has gathered around 200 young ballet dancers from the Asia-Pacific region. END
