10 September 2013 – Officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles (L.A.) attended the Seventh Philippine Heritage Institute International (PHII) Youth Conference and the First Jose P. Rizal Monument Movement (JPRMM) Youth Conference, entitled “A Symposium Defining the Filipino Identity” held at the Carson Community Center in Carson City, California on August 24.
The event was organized by PHII and JPRMM in coordination with the Consulate General. It started with a flag ceremony and flower offering at the Jose P. Rizal Monument in the Carson International Sculpture Garden.
The Youth Conference focused on first, second and third generation Filipino-American youths, providing them with a background on Philippine History and Filipino national leaders, and inspirational remarks by successful and role model Filipino-American such as Cerritos Mayor Pro Temp Mark Pullido and former L.A. City Attorney Eduardo Angeles. Newly-formed youth group “We Are One”, provided career guidance through ABS-CBN News-Video Journalist Steve Angeles, “Tyra Banks Show” Producer Marc Anthony Nicolas, TRC Solutions Senior Project Manager Berwyn Salazar and Publicist Elgin Zulueta.
