20 September 2013 - A Filipino-Australian choral group, Juan Ride, heeded the call to help those affected by Typhoon Maring in the Philippines by holding a fund-raising concert on September 08 at the St. Patrick’s Church in East Gosford, Central Coast in New South Wales (NSW).
Taking their name from “Juan dela Cruz,” and “Ride,” to symbolize their journey through music, the group was formed in 2012 and has since been performing in multicultural activities and lending their talent to charitable causes.
After Typhoon Maring hit the Philippines in August 2013, the members of Juan Ride approached Fr. Tadeusz Seremet, parish priest of St. Patrick’s Church, with the idea of the fund-raising concert, which was met with enthusiastic support by Father Seremet and the parishioners.
A total of A$1,845.60 (or US$1,723.7) was raised during the concert and an additional A$384 (or US$358.70) was contributed by the Filipino-Australian Catholic Community (FACC), bringing the total to A$2,229.60 (or US$2,082.4 or PhP91,167.50). The amount raised was remitted by the choral group to ABS-CBN Foundation – Sagip Kapamilya on 9 September 2013.
Philippine Consul General in Sydney Anne Jalando-on Louis lauded the group for generously offering their talent in aid of the typhoon victims. She also extended her thanks to Father Seremet and his parishioners at St. Patrick’s Church and the FACC. END
