24 September 2013 - The Philippine Women’s National Football Team, the “Malditas,” competed in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship 2013 from September 7 to 19 in Yangon, Myanmar.  The group, mostly composed of US-based lady booters, finished the tournament with two wins and two loses.

The Malditas won over Indonesia, 6-0 on September 10 at Yangon Training Centre and beat Laos, 7-2, in their match on September 18 at Aung San Stadium.

The Philippine team fell short against eventual champion Japan, 1-5 and host Myanmar, 1-4.  Joana Houplin is in the running for the tournament’s Golden Boot Award after scoring a total of 8 goals for the Malditas.

The Filipino community and Philippine Embassy in Myanmar supported the Malditas all throughout their matches as they cheered for them while waving Philippine flags.

The players with their team officials, led by Team Manager Filiberto Alquiros, called on Ambassador Alex G. Chua on September 16 at the Philippine Embassy in Yangon.

The Malditas will return to Myanmar for the 27th SEA Games in December 2013. END
