On the Floods and Landslides in India and Nepal
15 August 2017 - The Philippine Embassy in New Delhi and the Philippine Consulate General in Kathmandu report that no Filipino has been reported hurt or injured in the calamity following the recent flooding and landslides in Nepal and India caused by heavy rains in southern Nepal since 11 August 2017.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano extends his sympathies to those affected by this calamity.
In Nepal, the calamity killed at least 49 people, injured 17, and around three dozen reported missing. The Nepal Red Cross estimates that around 100,000 people were affected.
In the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, at least 45 people were reported to have been killed and more still missing after two packed buses were swept into a gorge.
The Philippine Embassy in New Delhi and the Philippine Consulate General in Kathmandu continue to monitor the situation. END
