PH Embassy in Singapore Advices Married Filipino Women to be Mindful of Singapore’s Immigration Laws
SINGAPORE 06 August 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Singapore wishes to inform the public and the Filipino Community in Singapore to be mindful and to follow immigration rules in Singapore, particularly on the use of their married name.
This is in line with reports of recent arrests of married Filipino women at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), which involved: alleged misdeclaration of marriage in their embarkation or disembarkation card.
To avoid this inconvenience, the Embassy advices all married Filipino woman who previously entered Singapore using their maiden name, to tick “YES” (the box next to the question “Have you ever used a passport under a different name to enter Singapore?”) in their embarkation card. The complete maiden name must be indicated below the above selection.
For married Filipino women now using their husband’s surname, they are advised to always bring a copy of their marriage contract and the old previous passport reflecting their maiden name.
In the event of any arrest relating to this matter, immediately request ICA for consular access.
