Statement: On Foiled Missile Attack in Najran
06 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is checking if there were Filipinos among the 23 people who were reported hurt when debris from an intercepted missile fell on a residential area in Najran, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday evening.
The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah said the missile, which was fired from Yemen, was successfully intercepted and destroyed by the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces at around 8 p.m.
Consul General Edgar Badajos said debris from the missile fell on a residential area, causing minor injuries to 23 persons on the ground. He said the Consulate is checking if any of the approximately 7,850 Filipinos working in Najran were among those injured in the incident. END
