Update No. 2 on 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake in Hokkaido
07 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is assisting a second group of Filipino tourists who were in Sapporo when the magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Hokkaido on Thursday.
The second group of 40 reached out to the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and said the members are all safe. This group and the other group of 26 tourists are being assisted in rebooking their flights back to the Philippines.
Ambassador Jose C. Laurel said the Chitose Airport is expected to reopen today. Shinkansen train services were expected to resume at noon.
Ambassador Laurel said the Embassy stands ready to provide assistance to affected Filipinos if needed.
