Statement: On Hurricane Florence

10 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is monitoring Tropical Storm Florence as it approaches the southeastern coast of the United States with increasing intensity.

The DFA is advising the Filipino Community there to make the necessary preparations and follow the advice of local authorities.

Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez has informed Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano that an advisory has been issued to the estimated 150,000 members of the Filipino Community in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, which will be affected by Florence. The storm is expected to develop into a hurricane as it approaches land. Governors of these states have declared a state of emergency over the past two days in anticipation of the hurricane.

Ambassador Romualdez said the Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the Filipino Community in these areas. Filipinos who may find themselves in Emergency situations that would require the Embassy's assistance may call (202) 368 2767. END
